Search Juneau Background Check
A Juneau background check pulls from the Juneau Police Department records unit, the Diamond Courthouse trial court, and the state DPS criminal history portal. Most adult court files in Juneau are open to the public. You can search CourtView for free, ask JPD for a police report, or get a state criminal history printout from the trooper post at the courthouse. This page walks through each step. Pick the source that fits the type of record you need.
Juneau Records Snapshot
Juneau Police Records Unit
The Juneau Police Department sits at 6255 Alaway Avenue, Juneau, AK 99801. The non-emergency phone is 907-586-0600. The fax line is 907-463-4808. The Records Unit is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., closed on holidays. Records staff process records requests, hold case files, and run the front desk for in-person request forms. You can come in any weekday during open hours and fill out a paper request form.
For Land Use records, the city asks you to email CDD_Admin@juneau.gov. For permit history, plans, and as-built files, email edward.quinto@juneau.gov. Other municipal records go to City.Clerk@juneau.gov or fax to 907-586-4552. Each office routes a part of the file you may need for a Juneau background check tied to a person, property, or city license. The Juneau Police Department also points to the State of Alaska Sex Offender Registry for any name search by city.
For more on JPD records, see the Juneau Police Department main page.
The page lists hours, phones, and the records unit address. It also points to forms for incident reports and protective order packets. Note: JPD takes records requests under the Alaska Public Records Act at AS 40.25, which sets a 10 business day reply rule for most files.
You can also start a records request online. The city hosts a form at juneau.org/police/records-request for anyone who wants to ask for a police report, an incident file, or an accident report. The form asks for your name, phone, email, the date of the event, and a short note on what you need. Staff reply by email with the cost and pickup details. The online path saves a trip to 6255 Alaway Avenue. For a Juneau background check that touches both a police file and a court case, you can start both requests on the same day and pick up the results when they are ready.
Juneau Background Check and Record Sealing
Alaska law gives people a way to seal certain arrest records. Under AS 12.62.180, if a person was arrested in Juneau but never charged, or if the case ended in a full acquittal, they can file a written motion with the Diamond Courthouse. The judge reviews the facts and grants or denies the seal. Once sealed, the record drops from CourtView and from the DPS state printout. It will not show on a standard Juneau background check through the court or the state portal. The sex offender registry under AS 18.65.087 is a separate public list. A court seal does not remove a name from that registry. The registration term under AS 12.63.020 is 15 years for most offenses and life for aggravated or repeat cases.
Identity Theft and Fraud Reports
JPD has a separate page for identity crimes. Officers will record any criminal complaint of identity theft, give victims info to help restore their pre-crime status, and point them to state and federal help. The department works with state and federal agencies on these cases. A victim may file a police report, get a case number, then ask the records unit for a copy.
For the full process, see the JPD identity crimes page.
Identity theft files often connect with a wider Juneau background check, since fraud cases tie back to a court file in CourtView. A clean report from JPD can also help a victim clear up a wrong hit on their state record.
Juneau Court and Criminal History
The Diamond Courthouse at 123 4th Street in Juneau holds all trial court files for the city. The court is part of the 1st Judicial District. The Alaska State Troopers Judicial Services office sits in the same building at Suite 69. Office hours are 8:00 a.m. to noon and 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The trooper office sells a state criminal history printout for $20.00, paid in cash or check. You must bring two forms of ID, one a government photo ID. Photocopies are not accepted. The original printout is the only valid form.
This printout is the most direct way to get a state-level Juneau background check in person. Residents with less than 10 years of Alaska residency must also provide a full criminal history from each prior state for the past 10 years. The state uses this rule for jobs that need a Professional Driver's Permit. Under AS 12.62, anyone may ask for their own state criminal history.
For an online search, use CourtView at courts.alaska.gov. The site shows case number, party names, and charges. Some files do not show under AS 22.35.030, which pulls a criminal record from public view 60 days after a clean dismissal or acquittal. For a paper copy of any case, ask the Diamond Courthouse clerk in person.
State Sources for a Juneau Background Check
The Alaska DPS portal at backgroundcheck.dps.alaska.gov handles name and fingerprint background checks for the whole state. A name check costs $20, a fingerprint check costs $35. The Criminal Records and Identification Bureau on East Tudor Road in Anchorage runs the program. For a name check, you must give your Social Security number and an Alaska driver's license or state ID number. Under AS 12.62.160, anyone may ask for their own record or for the record of another adult.
The state sex offender registry under AS 12.63 is another key tool. You can search by name or by Juneau address. Entries show photo, home and work address, the crime of conviction, and the registration term. Care role checks under AS 47.05 go through the state Department of Health, not JPD. Inmate lookups use the Alaska DOC search at doc.alaska.gov.
Note: A full Juneau background check should pair the state DPS report with a CourtView search and a JPD records request, since each office holds a slice of the file.
The AST Judicial Services office at the Diamond Courthouse, 123 4th Street Suite 69, sells the state criminal history printout for $20 in cash or check. You must bring two forms of ID. One must be a government photo ID. Photocopies will not work. The printout is the most direct way to get a state-level check in person at the Juneau courthouse. Office hours run 8:00 a.m. to noon and 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays. This path is separate from the DPS online portal and gives you a paper result the same day in most cases.
