Eagle River Background Check

An Eagle River background check runs through the Anchorage Police Department and the Alaska Department of Public Safety. Eagle River is a community within the Municipality of Anchorage, so APD handles all local law enforcement. Criminal history records for Eagle River residents are kept in the Alaska Public Safety Information Network, the same statewide system that covers all of Alaska. You can search court cases on CourtView or request a full criminal history report through the DPS portal. This guide covers the steps to find and request a background check in Eagle River.

The department posts community crime maps and recent police activity too.

The APD main office is at 716 W. 4th Ave, Anchorage, AK 99501. Phone: 907-786-8500. Since Eagle River has no standalone police force, all background check requests for the area go through APD or through the state DPS system.

The Alaska Department of Public Safety runs the state criminal history program. A name-based Eagle River background check costs $20. A fingerprint-based check costs $35. Under AS 12.62.160, any person can request the criminal records of another person in Alaska.

The DPS self-service portal is the fastest way to start an online request. You enter your email, and the system sends a secure link. From there, you fill in your Social Security number and Alaska driver's license or state ID number. The report covers adult arrests and convictions for misdemeanor and felony offenses in Alaska. Infractions, violations, and most juvenile cases do not show up.

For a fingerprint-based check, visit an approved site. The closest one to Eagle River is the DPS Criminal Records and Identification Bureau at 5700 E Tudor Road, Anchorage, AK 99507. Other locations sit in Fairbanks and Homer. Prints must go on an FD-258 FBI fingerprint card in black ink. The DPS fingerprinting page has the full list.

Mail requests go to: Criminal Records and Identification Bureau, 5700 E Tudor Road, Anchorage, AK 99507. Phone: 907-269-5767. Email: dps.criminal.records@alaska.gov. Send a check or money order made out to the State of Alaska.

Note: Additional copies cost $5 if ordered at the same time as the original Eagle River background check, or $20 if ordered later.

Eagle River Court Records

Eagle River cases go through the Anchorage court system in the 3rd Judicial District. The Alaska Court System case search lets you look up cases on CourtView by name or case number. The site is free. It shows party names, case type, and docket entries. A CourtView hit does not mean the same thing as a full background check, since some records drop off the site after certain time limits or court orders.

Under AS 22.35.030, criminal records get pulled from the public site 60 days after acquittal or full dismissal. Sealed cases, juvenile files, and some minor alcohol and marijuana offenses under AS 04.21.078 do not appear on CourtView. The CourtView information page explains what shows and what stays hidden.

For certified copies of Eagle River case files, contact the Anchorage court clerk through the Alaska Trial Courts page. Certified copies cost $10 for the first and $3 for each extra copy in the same order. Staff research runs $30 per hour.

Keep in mind that CourtView is free but it is not a full background check. The site shows case data from the trial court index. It does not pull DPS arrest files or FBI records. A name search on CourtView may miss old cases that dropped off the public site. It may also miss files from prior states. For an Eagle River background check that covers the full scope, pair CourtView with a DPS name-based or fingerprint request. The DPS report draws from the Alaska Public Safety Information Network, which holds adult arrests and convictions filed by every law enforcement agency in the state. That gives you a wider net than the court site alone.

The Department of Corrections inmate search is another free tool. It shows who is in state custody right now. If a person was booked through an Eagle River case, the DOC site will list the facility, the charges, and the projected release date. For real-time custody alerts, call VINElink at (800) 247-9763. The system sends a call or text when an inmate moves or gets released.

Eagle River Background Check Resources

The Alaska Sex Offender Registry covers all of Alaska, including Eagle River. Under AS 18.65.087, the database shows name, photo, address, offense, and status. You can search by name or by location. Under AS 12.63.020, people with non-aggravated offenses register for 15 years. Those with aggravated or repeat offenses register for life.

The Alaska Department of Corrections runs an inmate search for state prisons. Eagle River cases that result in prison time may send the person to any state facility. You can also call VINElink at (800) 247-9763 to check on an inmate's status and location.

The Alaska Public Records Act at AS 40.25.110 gives anyone the right to request government records. State agencies must respond within 10 business days. The Alaska Department of Law at (907) 269-5100 handles questions about the act.

Under AS 12.62.180, a person can ask to seal an arrest record if they were acquitted, had charges dismissed, or were released without being charged. If a conviction resulted from the arrest, sealing is not allowed except in rare juvenile cases. Alaska has no general expungement law, so most records stay on file for good. A sealed Eagle River record still sits in the DPS system but will not show up on a standard background check report.
